The area of Volos and Pelion is endowed with all those features that make it as one of the main destination for Greek and foreign visitors, for holidays or short shopping trips. Τhe natural beauty of the region and especially the combination of a magic mountain and a blue sea, offer entertainment, recreation and vacation, which can hardly be exhausted. The modern city of Volos and the wider region have a rich local history, myths such as the ‘’Argo’’, Jason and the Centaurs. Local architecture (traditional villages of Pelion), special gastronomy, cultural tradition, archaeological or thematic museums (Volos Archaeological Museum, Folklore Museum, Railway Museum), archaeological sites (The Ancient Theater of Demetrias constructed at the same time with the foundation of the city in 294-292 BC and the Ecclesiastical monuments with the most important monasteries of Meteora are the most interest places. Meteora is a complex of huge, dark rocks of sandstone, rising out of Kalambaka town, near the first hills of Pindos and Hassia. The monasteries of Meteora, built on the top of some of the rocks, are today the second most important monastic complex in Greece, after Mount Athos. Historically there were thirty monasteries existed but only six of them are now operating. Since 1988 they have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Also the historic railway of Volos - Milies, the train of Pelion, as it is best known. Its line is the narrowest railway line in Greece and one of the narrowest in the world. The route of Ano Lechonia - Milies, in green slopes and the beautiful view of the Pagasitic Gulf, passes through picturesque stone arches over eight stone-built bridges and a metal bridge. ...the City of the Argonauts.
